1. How can I stop the GerdCheck recording so I can download the patient's data?
2. Can I get the patient study back, (recreate it) if I have deleted the patients study from the logger, or if the screen tells me "no data present"?
3. What should the counts be for pH 4 and pH 7?
4. Can I run the GerdCheck longer than 24 hours? The first 24 hours off Meds and the second 24 hours on Meds?
5. I did a two channel study on my patient. When I downloaded the study, it only showed 1 channel of data. What happened to the second channel?
6. My datalogger says, "Lead Off". What should I do?
7. My datalogger says, "Low battery". What should I do?
8. I want to use a different pH threshold. How do I change it?
2. Can I get the patient study back, (recreate it) if I have deleted the patients study from the logger, or if the screen tells me "no data present"?
• No! The data has been lost or removed from logger, [deleted] and can not be recreated.
• If the screen tells you, “no data is present”, no data can be downloaded.
3. What should the counts be for pH 4 and pH 7?
• While calibrating in pH 4, the counts should be between 81 and 138.
• While calibrating in pH 7, the counts should be between 141 and 168.
• The delta should be > 30 counts.
4. Can I run the GerdCheck longer than 24 hours? The first 24 hours off Meds and the second 24 hours on Meds?
• You can run the GerdCheck up to 43 hours without changing the battery or running out of data storage.
• If you need all 48 hours, "Set options" to 10 sec sample rate and give your patient an extra battery.
5. I did a two channel study on my patient. When I downloaded the study, it only showed 1 channel of data. What happened to the second channel?
• The number of channels (pH Channels 1, 2, or 3), at the time of recorder set-up was selected as one. The last study could have been set to use a single channel probe.
6. My datalogger says, "Lead Off". What should I do?
• Take a few sips of water and wait a few minutes
• Check and make sure the probe is connected tightly. You may try to disconnect and reconnect it.
• Take a few more sips of water and wait a few more minutes.
• If the problem continues, call your clinician.
7. My datalogger says, "Low battery". What should I do?
• Open the battery compartment and replace the battery with the appropriate alkaline battery.
8. I want to use a different pH threshold. How do I change it?
Listed here are the normal values determined by Dr. Donald O. Castell, which are the default values for the GerdCheck pH system.
Castell values: (distal)
Total time pH less than 4: 4.2%
Upright time pH less than 4: 6.3%
Recumbent time pH less than 4: 1.2%
Castell values: (proximal)
Total time pH less than 4: 1.3%
Upright time pH less than 4: 1.3%
Recumbent time pH less than 4: 0.0%
If you wish to use different normal values, follow these steps:
• With the waveform screen open, click Edit.
• Click on the + next to Analysis
• Click on the + next to Acid
• Click on the + next to Entire Included Study
• Double click on the word Procedure Summary
• Note the tabs for distal mid and proximal.
• Enter the appropriate values in the boxes as indicated and click Save, then Done.
• This will save the values for future studies, however will not change the values for previous studies.
