Hospital Information Systems Interface Options
Sandhill's HIS Interface Packages are intended for use by Information Technology personnel to assist in creating an electronic connection between Sandhill medical diagnostic equipment and Hospital Information Systems. Packages includes hardware and software that can be configured to send and receive HL7 messages to aid in patient information entry and patient report archiving.
Hospitals frequently want to connect an InSIGHT™ to their network for one or more of several reasons:
1. To be able to review patient waveform data, edit and generate reports using BioVIEW® on computers that are connected to the network but are not in their lab;
2. To use network software and backup equipment to backup patient data;
3. To allow anyone with Hospital Information System (HIS) access to view the InSIGHT reports.
Sandhill's Solution supports all three needs:
The standard BioVIEW software supports the first two options. The patient data can be easily exported to a network drive via the built-in network interface card in the InSIGHT G3. People with access to the network and BioVIEW installed on their computers can review patient waveform data, edit and generate reports. Data can be backed up by network software.
Sandhill has several HIS interface options that can transfer the reports to the hospital's information system. This is frequently done using a communication protocol called HL7 (Health Level Seven).
Sandhill can also receive HL7 admit and doctors' orders messages. This allows the InSIGHT operator to select a patient from a patient list instead of having to manually enter the admission information. This reduces errors due to mistyped information such as the patient ID, visit number, etc. HL7 report messages can be used to send the reports to the HIS.
Option 1:
HIS interface
Features
- HIS interface software places reports in a shared folder
- No additional hardware required
- HIS personnel need to provide a shared folder and appropriate permissions
How it Works
An XML file provides the needed patient info and the location of a copy of the report for HIS to pick up and archive.
Option 2:
HIS interface software w/o Gateway computer
Features
- HIS interface software is used to receive and send HL7 messages
- No computer included
How it Works
- The admit/Dr. orders info is sent from the HIS to a "Gateway" computer provided by the customer that is on 24/7.
- The workstation selects a patient from the list that is on the Gateway.
- After the RTF or PDF report is generated, it is sent to the HIS via the Gateway
Option 3:
HIS interface software with Gateway computer
Features
- HIS interface software is used to receive and send HL7 messages
- Includes computer
How it Works
- The admit/Dr. orders info is sent from the HIS to a "Gateway" computer provided by Sandhill that is on 24/7.
- The workstation selects a patient from the list that is on the Gateway.
- After the RTF or PDF report is generated, it is sent to the HIS via the Gateway
